Only the host can make story progress and unlock weapons/skills. Does he have to play the whole thing just to unlock the guns? Very true, but at the same time, this is there 3rd iteration of the multiplayer. If they're going to keep including it, these problems should be ironed out by now imo. Just because it's not the main focus doesn't mean it shouldn't be just as polished, especially because it was a heavily advertised part of the game this time around.
