Hi all.well im basically stumped..the problem is that my back seats are soaking wet and the part you lay back on. but the headrests are dry all of the roof liner is dry all the foot wells and carpets are dry.the only places that are wet are the bit you sit on and lie back on all the rest is bone dry. It goes back and left and back and down (3 connections total). The coolant temperature sensor is on the back of the engine below the left branch of the connector. There is an elbow attached to the engine that curves up. The temp sensor fits in the top of the elbow and is held in place with a C-clip.
To answer your question though, yesthe head temperature sensor does turn the radiator fans on, albeit indirectly through the ECU. Once the computer sees the head reach whatever temperature correlates with the coolant being 190C it turns on the radiator fans as this is the temperature at which the stock thermostat opens.

JasonH. I agree a modern car shouldn't have a fluctuating temperature gauge. If it does then the thermostat or temperature sensor are faulty. A faulty thermostat will cause the car to take longer to warm up and therefore increase fuel consumption. Running at low temps can clog up the DPF and soot up the EGR etc. Marie S. April 9, 2020.
